Philippe Coutinho – will he stay or will he go?
The Brazilian playmaker is wanted by Spanish giants Barcelona, who have reportedly seen two bids – the second in the region of £90million – rejected by the Reds this summer.
On Friday morning, club owners Fenway Sports Group responded to the ongoing speculation over the Reds star’s future by insisting he is categorically not for sale.
FSG’s statement said they would not be entertaining any bids for Coutinho and insisted he will ‘remain a Liverpool player when the summer transfer window closes’.
However, one hour after the statement was released, reports surfaced that the 25-year-old has officially asked to leave Anfield.
Liverpool have subsequently insisted that is “not true”.
Also on Friday, Sky Sports News received a statement said to be from one of Coutinho’s close family members.
It read: “Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution to this situation but to no avail.
“He has tremendous love for the club and its fans but, like Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez have pointed out in the past, Liverpool does not let its players leave on amicable terms.”
