77 Diamonds have looked into celebrity engagements and marriages in 2016 to reveal the common trends among the rich and famous.
They found those getting engaged for the first time spend on average 0.39 per cent of their net worth on a ring.
This is far less than the average of the celebrities studied, who spent a minimum of £281,000 – with the average cost coming in at an eye-watering £489,108.
The research also revealed the most likely months for famous couples to get engaged, and the evidence points to the prince having popped the question during the couple’s African holiday.
77 Diamonds found August, December and January are the most popular months for celebrity engagements.
Locations varied, with some celebrities favouring romantic spots such as France, and others sticking close to home.
If Prince Harry and Meghan are engaged, they would be moving faster than the average celebrity.
Stars entering their first marriage waited three years before getting engaged, whilst those getting hitched for the second time – as Meghan would be – only waited 28 months.
When it comes to the ring, it isn’t just the cost 77 Diamonds researched.
The most popular cut since 2015 has been the emerald, which is the cut of the diamond on the Duchess of Cornwall’s engagement ring.
Currently, white gold is the most popular choice for the setting, but 77 Diamonds predict yellow gold will surpass this in 2017.
After the engagement ring, the next most watched item that would form part of any marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan would be her wedding dress.
And now a source has revealed Harry is keen to enlist the help of one A List designer to create Meghan’s dream gown.
New Idea reports that Prince Harry has been pushing for Victoria Beckham to create Meghan’s wedding dress, as the Beckham’s are family friends.
A source told the magazine: “He just feels it would mean a lot to have a close friend like Victoria involved in such an important part of the wedding.“
