Philippe Coutinho celebrates scoring for Brazil with Neymar

Friday, September 1, 2017

Neymar claims Philippe Coutinho is living with a ‘very great sadness’ after the wantaway Liverpool star scored on his return to action with Brazil.

Barcelona have been desperate to lure Coutinho to the Nou Camp this summer and the playmaker has yet to feature for the Reds this season as he attempts to engineer a move away from Merseyside.

But Liverpool have refused all offers for the 25-year-old and insist he will not be joining Barca before the Spanish transfer window closes on Friday night.

Coutinho, despite supposedly suffering with a back injury, came on for Brazil against Ecuador on Thursday night and scored in a 2-0 win.

He appeared emotional as he celebrated his goal and Neymar – the man he is slated to replace at Barcelona – spoke of his fellow countryman’s anguish after the match.

“I’m very happy that he scored a goal because at this moment he lives a very great sadness,” said the £200m PSG superstar.

“He helped us to the victory. He’s a great player and did very well when he came on.”
