ORIGINAL: Manchester United and Real Madrid will go head-to-head tonight as they battle it out for the UEFA Super Cup at Macedonia’s Philip II Arena in Skopje.
The match between last season’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League winners will have a number of tantalising storylines going on.
Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo will be facing off against the club where he became a global superstar.
Ronaldo spent six years at United, moving there when legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the Red Devils.
He won three Premier League titles and the Champions League before securing a then world record £80million summer transfer to Real Madrid.
At Madrid, the Galactico has won a staggering three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles.
He has also won the Ballon d’Or three times since moving to the Bernabeu – after winning it once while at Manchester United.
Meanwhile, tonight’s UEFA Super Cup clash will also see another Portuguese legend face off against a former club.
Jose Mourinho, now in charge of Manchester United, will be battling Real Madrid – where he spent three years.
Mourinho won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercopa while in charge of Madrid but also had a number of humbling defeats against Barcelona.
These losses were a 5-0 drubbing at the Nou Camp and a 3-1 defeat at home.
Both Mourinho and Ronaldo will be looking to make their mark tonight, as Manchester United aim to win only their second ever UEFA Super Cup.
While United’s big summer signing, Romelu Lukaku, will be aiming to show fans he can deliver on the biggest of stages after his huge £75m transfer.
Lukaku is in the starting line-up for Manchester United, while Ronaldo is on the bench for Madrid.
