Fans of the hit HBO series were left stunned when Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Headey) revealed to her brother Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) that she had no intention of sending her army to fight against the Night King (Vladimir Furdik).
Her sibling was horrified to find that she had lied to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) when she promised to help their fight against the army of the dead.
But, Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton has revealed Cersei’s evil plan had already been exposed.
Though viewers barely got the chance to admire the Queen’s new dress as she gathered at the Dragonpit, close-up images shown on HBO’s Making of Game of Thrones blog reveal a spine-like design on the back.
And, the twisted detailing was placed there on purpose as a subtle hint that Cersei would betray the new couple.
Michele explained: “Something about the slashing and the twisting told you a lot about her character, a contradiction of the costume from the front.
“It’s almost like a sting in the tail, something on edge as you see her walk away: there’s something really disturbing about this woman.”
Jon and Daenerys are yet to find out about Cersei’s decision to betray them but will soon be left stunned when her army fails to arrive at The Wall to fight against the Night King.
The Queen’s deadly dress design may also hint at further betrayal when the fantasy series returns to television screens – but who will fall foul of her?
It comes after an alleged leak from season eight revealed that Cersei’s pregnancy is not a ruse but it could end badly.
An outline, which surfaced on Reddit last month but has since been removed, claimed that her pregnancy could end in a miscarriage.
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to Sky Atlantic.
