Everton midfielder Ross Barkley denies he was close to Chelsea move and insists: ‘I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point’

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has denied claims he was close to a move to Chelsea and insists he ‘did not undertake a medical with any club at any point’.

Barkley appeared set to move to Stamford Bridge on transfer deadline day after the Toffees accepted a £35million bid from the Premier League champions.

The England international – who is in the final year of his Everton contract – reportedly travelled to London on Thursday to be assessed by the Blues, only to then back out of the move.

According to Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Barkley underwent a medical with Chelsea but then had a change of heart and decided against joining them.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, Barkley, insisted that was not the case.

The England international, who is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, wrote on Twitter:
