The ITV soap’s latest instalment continued with its storylines from this week, as Jacob Gallagher (played by Joe-Warren Plant) decided not to run away from his problems and left his gun-toting friend Josh Crowther at the train station.

Meanwhile, Ross Barton (Michael Parr) came closer to discovering the truth about his mother Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney), who killed her husband – her sons’ father – last year.

Megan Macey (Gaynor Faye) was starting to change her mind about her ex-con man fiancé Frank Clayton (Michael Praed), but scheming Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) had her own ideas and decided to fabricate a lie about Frank texting her seductive text messages.

Megan was left furious and came on-board with the blonde’s plan to fleece her partner and send him back to prison.

But it seems that fans of the award-winning soap were not impressed with the events for a Friday night episode, disappointed with the lack of action.

“Well… A disappointing episode to end a disappointing week… Not holding my breath for next week either #emmerdale,” one person grumbled on Twitter.

Another viewer said angrily: “I can’t believe I got out of bed for that episode of Emmerdale. It was more of a snoozer than their Friday Fun Day s**t.”

“Wow that was boring #emmerdale,” a third agreed, as another echoed: “Emmerdale is a yawn fest tonight.”

Some fans believed that the perceived decline in quality was due to producers holding back for their upcoming plot twists teased in a special Emmerdale event today.

“That episode of ED was a snooze! Feels like SL’s are in neutral (or going round in circles) because they wanna drag it out until Oct! #Emmerdale,” one person complained.

The episode also saw Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) finally getting excited about her wedding day to Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) next week.

After a difficult day searching for her son Jacob with Pete steadfastly by her side, she admitted to realising that he was the best person in the world she could be with, and couldn’t wait for their happiness to begin.

But fans weren’t so quick to trust the love rat and predicted the big day will result in everything falling apart, as one person said: “#Emmerdale- when a soap character’s getting excited about their wedding you know carnage is just around the corner.”

Emmerdale continues Monday at 7pm on ITV.
