Diana’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother: Diana was branded a ‘PROSTITUTE’ by her own mother | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

‘Princess Diana’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother’ detailed the royal’s difficult relationship with her stepmother Raine Spencer.

However, the twist in the tale revealed that when her marriage to Prince Charles broke down, Diana unexpectedly rekindled her fraught communication with Raine and they became close confidantes, despite her being shunned by the family after the death of Earl Johnny Spencer.

Yet when Diana became enamoured with her new beau Dodi Fayed – whom Raine fully supported – her biological mother Frances Shand-Kydd found out and was furious at the prospect.

Diana’s butler Paul Burrell admitted he overheard the devastating conversation between the Princess and her estranged mother.

“Diana’s mother was berating her for being seen around town. She was saying ‘you’re a prostitute, you’re a prostitute’,” he shared.

Paul continued: “Diana said ‘if you say that again I’m going to put the phone down and never speak to you again’. And that’s what she did.”

The butler also revealed that during one of their private conversations, Diana had confidentially told him she cried herself to sleep the night her son Prince Harry was born because of her husband.

“She told me on the night that Harry was born, she cried herself to sleep. The prince told the princess that his duty was now done.

“He said that he’d provided the country with an heir and a spare, and he could now resume his relationship with Camilla Parker-Bowles,” he added.

The documentary also saw Raine’s personal assistant Sue Howe reveal that Diana had once pushed her stepmother down the stairs.

During one of her brothers’ weddings, the princess had felt that her own mother was being ignored and Raine had taken over her family home in Althorp, leading to the explosive scene that left Raine “terribly upset” and covered in bruises.

Princess Diana’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother will be available to watch on All 4.
