When Chesney (played by Sam Aston) was accidentally stabbed by drug dealer Rich (Fraser Ayres) last month, the character seemed to be recovering well from his traumatic ordeal.
But as the character had to face his first day back at work in kebab shop Prima Doner, he struggled to cope when a gang of rowdy teenagers burst in.
After experiencing his first panic attack and running out of his job, Chesney rushed to the local doctor’s surgery when he collapsed.
He made receptionist Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) promise not to tell anyone about what had happened, but was clearly shaken up.
Chesney’s family and girlfriend Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) were worried about the soap favourite’s uncharacteristic behaviour.
Fiz Brown’s (Jennie McAlpine) younger brother ended up quitting his job altogether after an almighty argument with his boss Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).
As Chesney continued to lie to his loved ones however, claiming that he’s just had enough of everything, fans may wonder if actor Sam will be heading away from the cobbles as Chesney needs to distance himself from his trauma.
Eventually returning home to Sinead, who had planned a special evening for the two of them to cheer her beau up, Chesney assured his girlfriend that if there was something wrong he would tell her.
“I’m sick of them taking me for granted, I’m sick of the job. I’ll find something else tomorrow,” he’d lied, as Sinead worryingly asked: “Ches you know, if there’s anything wrong… or anything else?”
“I’d tell you,” he replied firmly.
But as the blonde disappeared into the kitchen, a distraught Chesney seemed barely able to hold himself together as he rushed to lock the front door before slumping down on the stairs.
Sam has been a stalwart on the cobbles after appearing in his first episode 14 years ago, but could this new struggle for loveable Chesney mean the end, and will he tell Sinead the truth?
